About_Spark.jpg

Spark is a family-owned and operated business based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  We're either your neighbor or a long lost cousin depending on where you are located.  Situated in the heart of the Midwest, we work with clients internationally.  And we don't just mean Canada.

Spark was started by husband and wife, Jim Watne and Valerie Carlson in 2005 while they lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Both designers by trade, Jim and Valerie designed and printed their first custom stationery album featuring letterpress wedding stationery on a Chandler & Price 10x15 new series.  This album was sold to retail stores around the country.  After the launch of that initial album, they moved the business to Sioux Falls, South Dakota so that they could expand their operation with the help of family.  Since that time, Spark released additional custom letterpress stationery albums:  Spark Custom, Spark Letterpress Love, Spark Impress, Spark Mitzvah and coming soon, Spark Bliss.  Spark's albums are represented by more than 120 retailers internationally.

Spark's custom invitations have been featured in national magazines such as Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides (national and regional), Print, Communication Arts, Inside Weddings, Real Simple Weddings, The Knot, New York Weddings, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, Stationery Trends, InStyle Weddings, Minnesota Bride, Seattle Bride, World Bride, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style and more. Spark has also been featured on numerous online media including FPO, Oh So Beautiful Paper, Paper Crave, The Brides Guide, Style Me Pretty, Merci New York, Casa Sugar, The Knot, Brides.com, RealSimple.com, Always a Blogsmaid and Communication Arts webpick.

It should be said that we do print more than wedding stationery at Spark.  We often print collateral for independent designers, agencies and small businesses locally and nationally.  Spark is known for our acceptance of quirky projects and willingness to print on a variety of stocks.  As of 2013, we have a collection of presses from our Heidelberg Cylinders to our Heidelberg Windmills that keep our operation humming.

Feel free to contact us to learn more.  We are happy to provide tours of our shop and hand out a sample or two for inspiration!
